InfoGrok, a leading media industry suppliers website and platform has reported that a special post Super Bowl advertorial edition of the popular Fox network musical comedy television show Glee has been aired.
The advert featured the cast singing a tune entitled ‘See the U.S.A. in your Chevrolet’, which is a modernistic re-hash of a jingle by the same name that was popularized by Dinah Shore in the 1950′s.
In the advertorial the Camaro convertible and the Volt models were featured in a strange dream-inspired sequence.
Mr Joel Ewanick, the current global CMO of General Motors is quoted as saying, “We saw this as a unique opportunity to cap off an unprecedented day of success for the Chevrolet brand. The ad shown during the Super Bowl event highlighted several Chevrolet products in a neotraditional way. The Glee tie in relationship is a new realm for integration with a fashionable and hugely popular show on the big day.”
The media industry news and report store website goes on to state that Mr Jean Rossi, President of FOX One and EVP of Fox has said, “Conversations with the agency Starcom began upon immediately upon the announcement that Glee would have a post Super Bowl episode, and from that point on, the main focus was on elevating Chevrolet and ‘Glee’s’ long standing partnership to a whole new level.”
The 60 second Chevrolet advert aired during the special Glee episode complete with silver colored Chevys on a white background in a scene reminiscent of the famous 1930′s Hollywood musicals of the day. The young all singing, all dancing cast sing and dance around the cars whilst other performers dangle from the ceiling by white sheets.
The advertisement was produced in partnership with Glee’s creator and Exec Producer Mr Ryan Murphy by Chevrolets media partner, Starcom which also handled the media buying and campaign planning aspects.
The question the board at General Motors will be asking over the coming weeks and months is simple. Did the advert actually work?
